Easy Ways To Activate Tab Previews In Firefox
Tab Previews in Firefox function similarly to other popular browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Vivaldi, Opera, and Brave Browser. When you hover your mouse over a tab, a small preview of the website is shown, allowing you to quickly glance at the content without switching tabs.
Despite Tab Previews being available in the latest version of Firefox, the feature is not turned on by default, possibly due to ongoing bug fixes. There isn’t a straightforward option in the browser settings to enable it. You will have to adjust some advanced settings to activate it. Here’s how to do it:
Steps To Turn On Tab Previews In Firefox
1. Go to the about:config page.
2. Accept the Risk and Proceed to proceed further.
3. Enter the specified text in the search bar
4. The default setting is false.
5. Double-click to change it to true.
That is all that is required. No need to restart the browser after making these changes. Test the feature by opening multiple tabs, hovering over them, and observing Firefox display Tab Previews. Keep in mind that this feature is only active on open tabs. Inactive tabs will not show Tab Previews until you click on them to activate them.
If you notice Tab Previews loading slowly, there is a setting you can adjust. Search for.
By default, it is set to 1000ms (1 second), meaning that Tab Previews appear 1 second after hovering over a tab. Reduce the value to 500ms or lower to decrease the delay. Setting it to 200ms will instantly show the previews.
Firefox 123 also introduces a new Web Compatibility Reporting Tool, another undisclosed feature. The procedure remains the same as before; find extensions.webcompat-reporter.enabled and change its value to True to activate it. To make use of this tool, visit a site, click on Firefox’s Menu > Help, and an option called “Report site issue” should be visible.
If you wish to view previews of multiple tabs simultaneously, you can utilize the Panorama Tab Groups extension to visualize the previews and organize your tabs into groups. However, having native support for Tab Previews is a positive advancement, eliminating the need for potentially outdated or unsupported add-ons in the future.
For a while now, users have been urging Mozilla to integrate Tab Groups and Vertical Tabs into Firefox, features they look forward to seeing included in upcoming versions.
